JeI functionary met Indian intel official in secret: Bangladesh PM aide
DHAKA: Days after Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman claimed attempts were being made to destablise the country, his special assistant Md Rashed Khan has alleged a senior functionary of Bangladesh’s largest opposition party Jamaat-e-Islami had a secret meeting with a senior Indian intelligence official.Targetting JeI secretary general Mia Golam Parwar, Rashed, in a Facebook post Tuesday, said, “If Golam Parwar believes in ethical politics, I hope he will clarify the matter of this secret meeting. Otherwise, it will be assumed that Jamaat has become involved in a deep conspiracy against the state. The first trap in this conspiracy is a plan for Jamaat to launch a movement alongside Awami League!” In response, hardline JeI said it doubted the mental and political well-being of those spreading such false information and challenged them to prove their allegation. Rashed questioned why people who speak against India throughout the day would take part in a secret meeting with an Indian intelligence official. “Meeting an Indian diplomat and meeting a senior Indian intelligence official are not the same thing,” he wrote.Rejecting the allegation, JeI said it conducts its political activities through constitutional and systematic means and maintains diplomatic relations with foreign countries.
